Human food and dogs
Dogs and humans metabolize foods differently. What is safe for us can be deadly for a dog.
What is safe:
1. Carrots (raw & cooked) Cut into bite size pieces to prevent choking.
2. Peanut butter
3. Eggs (cooked only)
4. Salmon (cooked, boneless)
5. Blueberries
6. Popcorn
7. Pineapple
8. Watermelon, cantalope
9. Bread
10. Blackberries
11. Corn (the cob can be a choking hazard so do not give them the cob)
12. Green peas, green beans
13. Oat meal
14. Apples, apricot, plum (fleshy part only, Seeds contain cyanide)
15. Broccoli (small doses)
16. Chicken (cooked only and without the bones)
17. Sweet potatoes
18. Coconut
19. Pork (cooked only preferably without seasons, spices or sauces)
20. Mango
21. Turkey (cooked, boneless and skinless. Do not use seasoned or stuffed especially if onions &
garlic are used.
22. Rice (plain brown or white)
23. Beef (cooked without seasonings or sauces)
24. Bananas
25. Strawberries
26. Oranges (in small quantities)
27. Mushrooms
28. Potatoes (cooked only)
29. Celery (small amounts)
30. Shrimp (plain, cooked)
What is not safe:
1. Grapes & raisins (can cause kidney failure and death)
2. Chocolate (attacks the nervous system and can cause death)
3. Macadamia, almond & pistachio nuts (toxic)
4. Onions (damages red blood cells) This includes onion powder
5. Avocado (can cause breathing difficulties, oxygen deprivation & even death
6. Coffee & tea (caffeine attacks nervous system)
7. Garlic (can damage red blood cells and cause anemia)
8. Alcohol in any form (can cause heart attack, lung failure, coma or death)
9. Nutmeg (toxic)
10. Lemons & limes
11. Raw yeast dough
12. Tobacco
Limit:
1. Salt
2. Cheese
3. Cashews, peanuts ( in small amounts)
4. Ice cream
5. Cottage cheese
6. Tomatoes
9. Cinnamon (not toxic but is an irritant)
10. Honey (high in sugar)
11. Milk (most dogs are lactose intolerant)
12. Cherries without the pit
